KingFoto has been recording the inspirational moments of people in Indonesia for over half a century and is the leading photography studio in the country. It remains dedicated to providing excellent services and quality products. KingFoto is the only integrated photo studio chain in Indonesia to provide a complete range of photography services, related services and products.
It specializes in family portraits, corporate, child, wedding, glamour
and commercial photography and has 14 studio outlets in Jakarta and
Surabaya. KingFoto also has its own computerized processing laboratory,
providing services such as large-format printing, commercial printing,
advertising support and digital imaging.
KingFoto's clients include wedding parties, government official, artist, fashion models, composers and the general public, who all appreciate KingFoto's style of photography.
ACHIEVEMENTS
KingFoto has received international recognition for its professionalism
and creative fair. In 1984 it became a registered member of Professional
Photographers of America (PPA) in US. Five years later it became the
first and only Indonesian company to acquire the Certified Photographer
Award from the PPA. Since 1998, KingFoto has won numerous awards
from this prestigious organization, including 12 Loan Collection Awards
and 16 General Collection Awards.
It has also received awards from Wedding Photographers International
(WPI) in US, including First and Second Winner Awards in the group,
engagement, bridal party, child and individual categories. It has
also received over ten Honorable Mention Awards from WPI. KingFoto
was the first Asian photographer to be conferred the accolade of Outstanding
Photographic Achievement from WPI.
In 1995, KingFoto became the only photographer in Asean to be selected as member of the American Society of Photographers, a society of professional photographic artist who aspire to maintain the highest level of excellence.
KingFoto has also enjoyed widespread recognition from other countries around the world. In 1996 it was conferred the golden Camera Award from DPP Persatuan Fotografer in Indonesia an in 1998 it was awarded Wedding Portrait Photographer of The Year by British Institute of Photographers. Recently it received the Regional Medallion Awards from Kodak.
HISTORY
KingFoto traces its origins back to Pematang Siantar, a small town in North Sumatra. Over half a century ago, the founder, Gunawan Leonardi, put his passion for photography into practice by opening a small studio called Hollywood Studio.
Hollywood Studio quickly developed a loyal customer following, success
which led Gunawan to set up a business in Medan, the capital city
of north Sumatra . The photography studio was renamed Cathay Photo,
and then Karya Photo a few years later. Confident that business would
prove an even greater success in a bigger city, Gunawan moved to Jakarta
in 1971, where be established King's Photo. This name was used until
1995, when government policy required that foreign brand names be
changed to local ones, Thus, King's Photo became KingFoto.
Gunawan's passion for photography was inherited by his two sons, who have played key roles in the business since 1987. Having completed his business management studies in the University of Southern California in the US, Michael Leonardi, the eldest son, returned to Indonesia to help develop the business. Today, Michael Leonardi is KingFoto's managing director.
Indra Leonardi, the younger son, is a director in the company. He graduated from the Brooks Institute of Photography in California and earned a Master of Photography degree from the Professional Photographers of America, the youngest and only photographer in Asean to have achieved this degree.
After 54 years, Gunawan Leonardi's passion and dedication to photography
has been fully realized. Based on the corporate philosophy "We need(s)
to be better", the company maintains its position as market leader
by continually developing and investing in human resources and technological
equipment.
THE PRODUCTS
The KingFoto Group has created and marketed an entire portfolio of successful brands, These include :
* Bridal Image - The bridal division of KingFoto uses unique fabrics such as French lace and silk taffeta to create beautiful gowns. Since 1996, Bridal Image has been the sole distributor for Cymbeline Parisian gowns.
*Lifestyle - the videography division of KingFoto, established in 2000, captures the special moments of wedding days through state-of-the-art-videography and photography.
* Leonardi Portraiture - this high-end division of KingFoto was established in 1987 and specializes in producing fine portraits
* Gloss - the first and only company in Indonesia to engage in high fashion, digitalized photography.
* Freeze Frame - specializes in glamour photography, Freeze Frame International granted the master franchise to KingFoto in 1992. All Freeze Frame staff undergo special training at Freeze Frame Center in the US.
*dgra - A processing laboratory division of the KingFoto Group which is equipped with high-quality scanners and printers for digital printing and commercial purposes
RECENT DEVELOPMENT

the company is strongly committed to innovation. As such, KingFoto enjoys wide recognition as a trendsetter in the industry. Its innovation include :
-Wedding Website - KingFoto's customers benefit from their own wedding website. The brides and groom are able to share their wedding photos with family and friends, who are able to leave messages for the couple in the online guest book. KingFoto was the first , and remains the only company to offer this service to customers. In addition, the company has developed a wedding guide on the internet. Information includes advice on wedding gowns, tuxedos, wedding invitation cards, wedding cakes, decoration, photo studios, catering and flowers.
Choosing photos online- this facility is a first in the photography industry in Indonesia. Customers are able to choose which photos they like to be developed anywhere and anytime.
KingFoto Mobile - (wap.kingfoto.com) KingFoto realizes that technology is changing rapidly. It collaborated with Nokia in 2004 to launch its WAP mobile phone application site. The site enables people to browse features such as photo galleries, news, and the latest trends.
PROMOTION
KingFoto promotes its brand through above-the line marketing such as advertising in newspaper, magazines, radio, television, and the internet.
It also engages in partnership with universities and other companies, such as CNI. In 2005 Kingfoto engaged in an exclusive partnership with Citibank, one of the largest financial institution in Indonesia. KingFoto outlets now offer Citibank EasyPay, where customers are able to take out three-to 24 month installment payment plans. It also offers customers Citibank Worldprivileges, the benefits of which range from complimentary gifts to exciting rewards in 26,000 establishment in over 30 countries.
The company was the first photography studio in Indonesia to introduce a customer membership card. The b2card (benefit to customer card) gives benefits such as cash discounts and rewards point. The card was launched in 2002 and the programme now has over 5,000 members. Customers can use the card in all companies within the strategic alliance.
The innovative marketing strategy has enabled KingFoto to combine both the creative and the commercial sides of the photography industry.
